Lymphedema
Do you have swelling in your arms or legs? Does one or more of your limbs feel heavy and hard to move? Did you know that swelling can be caused by a variety of things – a sprain, a bee sting, pregnancy, a surgical procedure, radiation treatments, even some medications. Normal swelling is also called edema, and it happens when your small blood vessels become “leaky” and fluid builds up in nearby tissues. It can be temporary, or a symptom of an underlying disease. Usually edema can be treated and completely cured. How can you get help? A certified lymphedema therapist (CLT) can provide the care and education in order to manage your lymphedema, or resolve your edema. Our occupational therapist is a certified lymphedema therapist.
